      ICAR-KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA,VIJAYAPURA<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

      Indian council of Agriculture Research, New Delhi remandated Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Vijayapura to take up additional functions of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) under National Agriculture Technology Project in August, 2000. This was upgraded and started functioning as a full fledged KVK from April, 2004. Besides these, other activities of KVK include conducting group meetings, field days, campaigns, diagnostic field visits, consultancy, formation farmers clubs and dissemination of technology through print as well as electronic media.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

      The thrust areas identified for Vijayapura district are conservation of soil and moisture, promotion of new varieties \/ hydrides, promotion of organic farming, promotion of ICM, production of high quality produce in horticulture crops health management of animals and birds for higher productivity, health management of rural women and children and creation of self employment opportunities.\u00a0Keeping these thrust areas in view, different training programmes and technologies for demonstration were formulated \/ selected. \u00a0The number of training programmes conducted, (On campus including vocational and Off campus) since inception are 367 benefiting 10,293 beneficiaries. \u00a0In these programme improved production technology for all crops including plant protection and post harvest management have been covered. \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

      In vocational training programmes, subjects like dairy management, sheep and goat rearing, home science activities and vermicompost production were included. Of the 367 training programmes conducted, 85 are on vermi technology.The vermicompost production has been taken up by about 90 per cent beneficiaries. \u00a0All these farmers who have involved in vermicompost production have almost stopped the use of inorganic sources of nutrients.\u00a0The area covered under front line demonstrations (FLD\u2019s) is 334 ha in different villages in cereals (91 ha), pulses (90 ha), oilseeds (91.4 ha), cotton (24.4 ha), horticulture crops (7.4 ha) and cropping systems (29.8 ha) since its inception. \u00a0In these FLD\u2019s thrust was given to improved varieties \/ hybrids, moisture conservation practices, organic farming practices, IPM and sustainable cropping systems.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n
